Live Like A Star: The Cravens Estate

One of the largest and most significant homes on “Millionaire’s Row,” in Pasadena,  The Cravens Estate has found a new owner in singer Michael Feinstein.

Built in the 1920's for John and Mildred Cravens, the 20,000 square foot home was designed by renowned San Francisco architect Lewis P. Hobart and built by the P.J. Walker Company after they completed the historic Greystone Mansion for the Doheny family in Beverly Hills.  P.J Walker Company also built the Biltmore hotel in Santa Barbara and the LA Times Building and Bullock's Wilshire.  Few builders had a greater impact on the LA architecture than P.J. Walker.

The interior decorator was Raymond Gould one of the founding members of the LA Philharmonic.  The home was famous for being the most expensive home ever built in Pasadena, according to a Los Angeles Times story dated February 6, 1955.  In Jan 2018, Feinstein purchased the home for $7 Million.

The Cravens passed away in the 1940s and the estate passed through a number of owners until it was donated by Simon Zervos to the American Red Cross in 1962.  To align its real estate holdings with its humanitarian mission requirements, the American Red Cross decided to sell the 50 room Cravens Estate after 55 years.

The Craves Estate is a famous house, having been in more movies and TV shows than most actors.
It was used as the White House in "Commander in Chief," Jag's headquarters in "JAG"  was the law firm in "Enemy Of The State" and was used in so many films including "Swordfish," "Rush Hour 3," "Traffic" "Hail, Caesar" and even "Being There."  Some of the TV shows that shot there: "Desperate Housewives," "Beverly Hills. 90210," "Mad Men,"  and "Ghost Whisperer."

The drawing room, whose walls are paneled with mahogany, the fireplace with carved marble (one of 6 within the estate) is most recognizable as the Warbler's room inside Dalton Academy on Glee.

Now if only we were friends with Michael Feinstein....because can you just imagine the parties and the music that will fill this home after he moves in.  WOW!!!

The Cravens Estate...we ❤️you.
