Save Parisian Florist

If Hollywood preservation is your thing, you are gonna sign onto this:

Save 7500 Sunset Boulevard needs your help with “Help Save Old Hollywood: Save 7500 Sunset Boulevard.”

Faring Capital is planning to tear down two blocks of historic Hollywood. This is an effort to stop or downsize this project and we need all the help we can get!  We would really appreciate your signature.

Why is this important?
The 7500 block of Sunset Boulevard is home to Parisian Florist.

Parisian Florist has been standing at the corner of Sunset Boulevard and North Sierra Bonita Avenue since it first opened in 1924 and the stars, including  Jackie Gleason, Clifton Webb, Raymond Burr, Ozzie and Harriet Nelson, Robert Mitchum, Desi Arnaz, Lucille Ball, Elizabeth Taylor, Katharine Hepburn, Janet Gaynor, Rock Hudson, Charles Laughton, and Telly Savalas all frequented there, but most importantly...Parisian Florist is where Joe DiMaggio ordered weekly flowers for Marilyn Monroe’s gravesite for twenty years.  Yes.  This flower shop was a favorite of Marilynn Monroe, and now someone wants to tear it down and replace it with a mega-complex.

The story of the Marilyn order is true.  After ordering the only flowers that were allowed at the funeral from Parisian, baseball superstar and Marilyn's EX husband, Joe DiMaggio,  placed a standing order with the florists (brothers Louis and Max Alhanati who purchased the business in 1960, becoming its third owners) for six roses to be delivered to his ex-wife's final resting place...

“Six fresh long-stemmed red roses, three times a week...forever”

...and for the next twenty years, a half dozen French Baccara blooms were placed each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at Marilyn’s crypt at Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park, for which Joe has billed annually (although somewhere along the line the order went to two times a week).  More than 18,000 roses were delivered in all over the twenty-year period, and the florist is still run by the Alhanati family to this day.

So as a community, it's important to save structures and business that have been a part of Hollywood long before we got here so that they will be here long after we leave.  We don't have many of them left.

So click here, read all about it...and sign the petition. Do it for Joe and Marylin.

SUNSET BLVD....we ❤️you just the way you are.
