One From The Vaults: "The Big Date" with Jon Hamm
Back in the 90's, if you were an actor, or a model or an actor/model in Hollywood, chances are you probably would have been on one of the many dating shows that were being produced at the time. (as someone who PRODUCED these dating shows...EVERYONE came through our doors...and it was a fun time to watch contestants turn into big celebrities)
In the above pic, you can see actor Frank Grillo (Kingdom, The Gates, Guiding Light) making an appearance on some show I produced during that time with Fred Roggin, and yes, every actor in the 90's had that same haircut.
In a recently discovered episode of the USA Network series "The Big Date," Don Draper himself, actor Jon Hamm makes his way into our hearts as a contestant on the show that was hosted by Mark Walberg...not Mark Wahlberg.
Take a look, but spoiler alert...he doesn't win the Big Date. Would you have picked him?
Even the writers of "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" ❤️ this. In season 4 episode 3, a clip of Jon Hamm on "The Big Date" is used to make it seem like it's a younger version of the character, the Reverend Richard Wayne Gary Wayne, clumsily trying to flirt his way into the heart of a fellow contestant. The only special effect used was changing the “Jon” name tag into “Richard.”
We love to see stars before they were stars...that is why we ❤️this. 📺

This is a very cool dating show.
