Whatever Happened To: The Cast Of "Mr. Belvedere”

"Mr. Belvedere", was a 1980's TV sitcom about a larger than life English nanny who comes to live with and take care of a typical American Family that ran on ABC for six seasons.

The character of Mr. Belvedere was originally created by Gwen Davenport in the novel Belvedere.  Then Clifton Webb played him in three popular movies, "Sitting Pretty", "Mr. Belevedre Goes To College", and "Mr. Belvedere Rings the Bell" years before Chrstopher Hewett took over the role for the sitcom.

Sportswriter George Owens (Bob Uecker) and his wife, Marsha (Ilene Graff), a lawyer-to-be, were a two-career couple living in suburban Pittsburgh and having trouble finding time for their three rambunctious kids played by Rob Stone, Tracy Wells and Brice Beckham.  Enter Mr. Belvedere, a witty, debonair, portly English housekeeper who had formerly served such gentry as Winston Churchill.

To everyone's surprise Mr. Belvedere proved both a genius in the kitchen and an expert at solving all the little problems of growing up and getting along that fill “warm family comedies” such as this.

A notable occasional guest was singer Robert Goulet, who turned up for, among other things, Belvedere's wedding in the last original episode.

Who can forget this loveable show and how at the end of each episode Mr. Belvedere wrote the lessons of the day in his diary.

Ya see, Mr. Belvedere didn't work for the Owens family just to get a paycheck, he intended to eventually write a novel about them.

So what happened to the cast?

Affectionately remembered, "Mr. Belvedere" lives on as a cult favorite and an icon of 80s suburbia...and that is why we ❤️ it.  📺
