Another One Bites The Dust: The House From Mommie Dearest

Christina... bring me the ax.

One of the campiest movies to come out of Hollywood was the 1981 film Mommie Dearest, and if you are a fan of the film, you might be devastated to learn that home used in the movie for all the backyard scenes, including the famous "I will always beat you" pool scene has been torn down.

Hard to believe someone could do this to a famous location such as this, but it's true. The 1930s Colonial home used as a backdrop for many scenes in the movie, including the home’s generous rear yard and pool with cabana to film the large party scene has was recently sold and has beenTORN DOWN.

The film Mommie Dearest is an adaptation of Christina Crawford’s memoir of the same name, revealing what it was like growing up with her adoptive mother, film star Joan Crawford. 

Although shooting was not done inside the home, the sets were created based on the interior and recreated on sound stages on the Paramount lot.

But not all of the houses used for Ms. Crawford's house from the movie are gone, the one that stood in for the front of the house seen in the famous jogging scene is still alive and well in Bel-Air.  Thank God. Nothing in Hollywood last forever so enjoy it why you can.

Even Joan Crawford's former home at 426 North Bristol Avenue in Brentwood, which the home in the movie was supposed to be is practically gone.

Beginning in 2003 it was extensively remodeled by new owners and is no longer recognizable from the days when the screen legend lived there.

The former home from the film at 355 South Mapleton Drive in Holmby Hills may not be with us any longer, but we can always revisit it by rewatching Mommie Dearest, and we ❤️that.
